Government Engineering College Trichur (GECT) Kerala, an ISO 9001: 2015 QMS certified institution, is one of the most prestigious and reputed technical education institutions in India . The College is the second oldest engineering institution in the state of Kerala and was established in the year 1957 with under graduate programmes in Civil, Mechanical and Electrical engineering disciplines. The college is the fourth top technical institutions in the state of Kerala and has figured in the list of top 200 engineering institutions in India among the 1071 colleges participated in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking 2021. Also, most of the UG and PG programmes offered by the college have been accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA), India.

The foundation stone of the main building of the college was laid down by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, former honourable prime minister of India. The college campus spread over an area of more than 75 acres is located at Ramavarmapuram, about 5 kms from Thrissur city and about 50 kms from Cochin International Airport. From the humble beginning with three UG engineering programmes in 1957, the institution has made substantial progress by way of offering eight undergraduate programmes, twelve post-graduate programmes and doctoral programmes in various engineering disciplines and architecture with an intake of around 1000 students per annum. The College has very renowned and accomplished alumni, many of them are nationally and internationally acclaimed professionals, scientists, CEOs and entrepreneurs like Dr. K Radhakrishanan (former Chairman, ISRO) and Dr. Tessy Thomas (India’s Missile Woman). Currently, the college is affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University, Kerala and is a quality improvement programme (QIP) centre approved by the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.
